PhD Degrees by Research

There are normally four or five vacancies for PhD students at any time within the centre as a whole. Degrees offered range from the 'traditional' to truly interdisciplinary, where your work might span two or more departments or faculties! Interdisciplinary degrees at PhD level are normally within well established research areas (synthetic skin, nano machines etc.) and retain the high levels of student support commonly only found in single department degrees.

Competition for places at the Centre is tough! - If you would like to study with us please follow the checklist below:

• Think early - see the research section on this site for an idea of the range of research ongoing in the Polymer Centre. A research degree will require commitment from you, so maximise your chances of enjoying it by ensuring that the work looks interesting to you in the first place!
• Contact those members of staff informally (Email forms are available through staff pages). This will give you an inside track on what is becoming available, and give you a clearer idea of the type of work involved.
• When you have determined who you are working for, check which will be your 'home' department, and work through the postgraduate admissions section there. Alternatively, you can obtain an application form for post-graduate study directly from the Graduate Research Office (link below).
