Course Overview

This new course has been designed for individuals who work with polymers, plastics, rubbers, paints, resins and surface coatings. The course is suitable for those without a degree in the field and will introduce the technology behind various manufacturing polymers. The course will cover the following topics:

  • What is a polymer?
  • The difference between plastics and polymers
  • Polymer types
  • Polymer additives
  • Rubbers and elastomers
  • Paints, adhesives, inks
  • Castings, mouldings, foams
  • Thermoplastics
  • High performance polymers

The course should provide you with the extra knowledge you need to better understand your products and processes and will introduce the basic principles of polymer technology to those who are unfamiliar with the subject or need refreshing.

The tutors will mainly discuss the applications of the various polymer classes, with an emphasis on new and established technologies, including formulation. Our follow on course, Basic Polymer Science, goes onto cover the fundamental science behind polymer technologies, synthesis and application.
