Course Overview

This new course has been designed for individuals who work with polymers, plastics, rubbers, paints, resins and surface coatings. The course is suitable for those with or without a degree in the field (but we recommend our Basic Polymer Science Course for valuable background science).  The course will cover the following topics:

  • What is a polymer additive?
  • UV stabilizers
  • Anti-oxidants and anti-ozonants
  • Colourants, dyes, pigments, optical brighteners
  • Flame retardants
  • Conventional fillers
  • Nanoscopic fillers
  • Processing aids
  • Tackifiers and others
  • Compatibility

The course should provide you with the extra knowledge you need to better understand your products and processes and will introduce the basic principles of polymer additives to those who are unfamiliar with the subject or need refreshing.

The tutors will mainly discuss the applications of the various polymer additive classes, with an emphasis on new and established technologies, including formulation.
