Two new Business Development Managers have joined the METRC Business Development Team – Sam Whitehouse and Simon Butler. They will be responsible for helping to build links between the N8 academic partners and industry.
Sam graduated with a MSc (Hons) in Chemistry at the University of Sheffield in 2002. He obtained a PhD at Sheffield in 2005. This was a joint project between the Chemistry and Molecular Biology departments at Sheffield on which he developed novel fluorescent probes to study protein interactions. In 2006 he joined Lombard Medical Coatings where he was responsible for leading research projects to develop new polymer coatings for the next generation of cardiovascular stents.
Simon graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in Chemistry from the University of Surrey in 1994. From 1994 to 2004 he worked in a variety of industrial R&D roles for Castrol and BP. From 1998 to 2001 he was a Research Chemist responsible for a number of high profile collaborative projects with Universities and third-party companies. From 2001 to 2004 he worked as a Development Chemist where he was responsible for developing and proving the superiority of Castrol and BP’s market leading engine oil products for passenger cars. In 2004 he joined The University of Sheffield as Business Development Manager for the Chemical & Process Engineering department, where he was responsible for building collaborative links in teaching, consultancy and research with industry and successfully managing the resulting projects.
