The research in my group focuses on the physical properties of polymers. To perform this we need a range of "ideal" systems, these are synthesised in house, either within the group or in collaboration with other groups, both nationally and internationally. We use a range of techniques to determine the response of polymers to external stimuli. The main techniques we use are based on scattering, Small angle X-ray, neutron and light scattering forming the main part of our work, supplemented with optical, IR and electron microscopy. We also have facilities for QCM and other mass sensitive techniques. One of our specialties is the integration of experimental techniques, we are currently developing new techniques for studying physical gelation.
